XLPE has superior crush resistance over regular polyethylene foam. In fact, it can take tens of thousands compressions before it looses any thickness or resilience. The triple layered mats are a combination of two different types of polyethylene foam PE & XLPE. The outside surfaces are high density PE and the center is lighter density XLPE foam. The high density PE foam on the outside has more strength and abrasion resistance which help it stand up to years of commercial use. PE is closed cell, keeping dirt and sweat out of any surface cells resulting in a clean and odor free mat for years. It can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth and sterilized with Bio-Check antibacterial cleaner.
