The XLPE foam has superior crush resistance over regular polyethylene foam. In fact, it can take tens of thousands compressions before it looses any thickness or resilience. The triple layered mats are a combination of two different densities of XLPE. The outside surfaces are 4 pound density foam and the center is 2 pound density foam. The 4 pound foam on the outside has more strength and abrasion resistance which helps it stand up to years of commercial use. It also has a polyethylene film baked into the surface which increases it’s abrasion resistance and keeps dirt and sweat out of any surface cells resulting in a clean and odor free mat for years. Mats that fold use the denser 4 pound foam as a living hinge. This material will bend thousands of times without hardening or tearing. It stays supple and resilient for years. The thicker 2 pound middle layer foam adds softness, deflection and resilience for that plush pain free feeling when doing floor exercises.
